Fall 2013: Banana Republic plaid trench

Last night I saw this stunning trench coat being advertised in the September issue of Lucky Magazine – everything about the ad says ‘Fall’ to me!

The plaid reminds me of a car coat my Grandmama owns that I have always loved. Knowing her, she likely bought it from Brooks Brothers or Talbots 20 years ago and had it tailored to her petite frame. The plaid of the BR trench is similar to how I remember the liner of her coat, which must mean she wore it on their Virginia farm, Liberty Hill, when I was small.

{as you can see, she has always loved plaid}
So once I got to work today I knew I had to look it up and see what it was made of, price, availability {which you can read below}:
fabric & care
•98% Cotton, 2% Spandex.
•Dry clean.
•Imported.

overview
•This trench maintains classic styling with a double-breasted closure and belt, but gets made over in plaid.
•Point collar.
•Long sleeves with button-tab cuffs.
•Double-breasted closure.
•Front-tie belt. Front flap pockets.
•Fully lined.

fit & sizing
•Body length: Petite: 31 1/2″; Regular: 34″; Tall: 36″.

I always find Banana Republic items to run big, so I probably would get a Tall in this coat (I’m long-waisted) and might try a size medium first!

Don’t you love the colors?

  1. Isn't my Grandmama gorgeous? I just love her whole look. Truly timeless. The colors really do make it a bit different for me – instead of a solid colored trench (which I have three of!).

  2. Thank you ladies, that is so sweet! I really do think I will just jump on board and get it since the price is pretty moderate for a decently-made trench. It isn't weather-treated though so that is my only qualm… Hmmmm.

  3. I do indeed love the colours. Funny how an ad can capture you so instantly….I guess they know what works. I get a similar response when I see those Michael Kors ads where the girl is all in her aviators wearing layer upon layer of expensive-looking camel coloured cashmere and wool. It is a colour that I absolutely cannot wear next to my face, but still I yearn.

  4. I agree – they know what works. Michael Kors recently was reported on… in one of the September issues, about his “Michael Kors woman” and how she is depicted in ever ad. So consistent over the past decade or so! Not my favorite brand (just SO branded here in the US – the lower priced lines at least) but I know a lot of people like him. While I don't love his brand as much as I did when I was younger, I agree that his models are so consistent. I love the polished look with that you describe. (and there is always a beach, or boat, or some exotic depicted in the background).

    XO
