Met Gala 2011

Evan Rachel Wood in Gucci

This Monday, the annual Met Gala occurred and this year the theme was asking for incredible fashion. The theme was “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” named after the exhibition of the same name. The exhibition opened to the public today, and you can see many of his most lauded fashions now until July 31, this summer.Hamish Bowles, always dapper

I have been a huge fan of the eccentric A McQ for years and years. I loved pawing through W and Harper’s Bazaar, who always seemed much more enthusiastic to feature him as opposed to the occasional spread in Vogue (not to say that they cared less, but they did cater to him less it seems… IMHO).Karen Elson in Alexander McQueen

Celebrities always turn out for the Met Gala, but this year’s exhibition really lit the place on fire with flashbulbs. Some people wore vintage McQ of their own and others wore McQ from his archives. It was certainly a special night.Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen

The likely-exhausted Sarah Burton, who now runs the House of Alexander McQueen, crossed the pond to listen to the most droll of questions, “How does it feel to have dressed Catherine Middleton?” etc etc etc. What a good sport!Sarah Burton in House of McQueen, her own design

Taylor Swift in J.Mendel

Doesn’t Taylor Swift look elegant? I love how she banished her generic cutesy-princessy dresses for something more couture!Christina Ricci in Zac Posen, with Zac Posen.

It really blows my mind when I think how far Christina Ricci has come with fashion. Growing up on camera, she seems to have kept her %$#! together for the most part! She really has embraced fashion in the past 15 years and I have loved watching her develop her tastes.

Ashley Greene wore Donna Karan custom

Ms. Greene looked fabulous in this frothy tulle confection, using 50 yards of tulle. A generic tulle dress uses about 10 yards, imagine how light this dress must have been? Very delicate, and I hope it didn’t get stabbed by any Louboutins!
One of my most favorite shoots involving Alexander McQueen fashions – Demi Moore for Harper’s Bazaar.

  1. I looked at Swifty's dress and thought “wow, she finally looks like she's going somewhere other than prom.” I think it's a nice evolution. Now to get a sandwich to her….
